In September 2017, the Bill was passed in the Lower House.
In November 2017, the Bill was passed in the Senate.
In November 2017, the Government of Jamaica passed the National Identification and Registration Act (NIRA 2017). The parliamentary Opposition was not present. Click here to see the Bill.
In December 2017, the Inter-American Development Bank approved a US$68 million loan to the Government for the NIDS and other projects.
